Life is about movement - everything in nature is in motion to create a balanced ecosystem. This balance should also occur within the body; it is our temple, it houses our spirit, and it is the expression of our existence. My talk is about how I help women in our community find this balance, be authentic, celebrate themselves and one another through a form of movement called Nia. This lifestyle practice has allowed me to achieve my own balance, and realize my goals, hopes, and dreams. Every woman has the potential to find that for herself.
Everyday women, just like me, regardless of age, race, socioeconomic status, or fitness level can embrace their bodies and emotions through the practice of Nia.
I believe if more women experienced movement beyond their day to day, they would grow, their souls would soar, they would really discover the possibility of joy in life's dance. This is why I am compelled to share my story.
Lola Manekin was born and raised in Brazil, where she learned from a young age to trust the body and its wisdom. She shares her love and knowledge of acupuncture, and Nia with the Baltimore community, where she has been a resident since 2006.
